Use-Case
From internship to offer

A PPO is a hiring decision, not a thank-you for finishing the internship. It turns on how clearly your contribution comes across.

You did the work over months. But the manager making your case — and the panel signing off — decide on what they can actually see you owned and delivered. Strong work that stays buried doesn't convert.

01

The problem

A pre-placement offer is decided differently from a fresh interview: the company has watched you work for weeks or months, so the raw-ability question is mostly answered. What's left is whether your manager can make a confident case to hire you full-time — and whether you can present your internship work, in a final review or conversion interview, in a way that makes your contribution obvious. This is where strong interns lose offers they earned. The instinct is to stay modest and credit the team — 'we built the feature', 'I helped with the module', 'I learned a lot' — which reads as a useful pair of hands, not a full-time hire. And in a short conversion interview there isn't time for the panel to dig out what you actually owned; if you don't make it easy to see, it doesn't count toward the decision.

02

The key insight

Converting an internship is a communication problem as much as a performance one. Your manager needs a clear, defensible story of what you owned and what it produced, and the conversion interview needs you to tell that story yourself — own your specific part instead of the team's, put a number on the outcome, and lead with the result before the backstory. The bar isn't 'was the intern useful'; it's 'can we picture this person owning work as a full-time engineer'. The score moves when 'I helped the team with X' becomes 'I owned X, and here's what it changed'.

03

Before and after

What you said
−Over my internship I worked with the team on the notifications service and helped fix some issues. I learned a lot about the codebase and I think I contributed well to the project.
What lands
+I owned the retry logic for the notifications service. Failed notifications were silently dropping — about 8% — so I built a dead-letter queue and retry pipeline that brought delivery to 99.5%. I also documented it so the on-call rotation could handle failures without me, which is why the team kept it running after my internship ended.

The weak version reads as a helpful intern. The strong version shows a specific thing owned, a number, and impact that outlived the internship — the case a manager can take into the room to argue for a full-time offer.

How Arpan helps

Arpan gives you the feedback that solo practice can't. The free Diagnostic scores your answers across Ownership Language, Quantified Impact, STAR Structure, Conciseness, Engagement, and Professional Tone — the exact dimensions US hiring managers evaluate — and delivers word-for-word rewrites of every answer so you can see the gap clearly. Pro turns that into a practice loop: every answer rewritten across 25 voice interviews and 5 on camera over 90 days, pattern detection that surfaces which habits are costing you points, and your Cultural Readiness Score™ after every session, so you can see where the score moves.

FAQ

Q.

Isn't a PPO decided by my internship performance, not an interview?

A.Both. The performance gets you considered; the conversion still comes down to whether your manager can make a confident case and whether you can present your work clearly in the final review or interview. Strong interns lose PPOs they earned because their contribution never became legible.
Q.

I was just an intern — how do I quantify impact on real work?

A.You quantify what your piece produced: an error rate you cut, a task you automated, a feature you shipped and its usage, time you saved the team. A specific number from a scoped internship task beats 'I contributed well' every time.
Q.

How is this different from practicing with ChatGPT?

A.A general AI tool can hand you a polished answer — but it won't tell you why it works against the principles a US interviewer judges you on, so you never learn what to change on the next question, and it keeps no running score, so there's no way to see where you stand or track it session to session. Arpan scores every response across six named dimensions — Ownership Language, Quantified Impact, STAR Structure, Conciseness, Engagement, and Professional Tone — and breaks down where you stand on each, with a plain read on what US interviewers are actually evaluating on that dimension, so you learn the rule behind the rewrite, not just the fix. You also get a word-for-word rewrite of every answer and a 'start here' focus on the one thing to work on first. Your free Diagnostic ends with your Cultural Readiness Score™ and the band you land in. Pro adds coaching before and after each session — the dimension to train going in, and a review of it coming out — surfaces the patterns costing you points within each session, and tracks that score after every session over 90 days.
